Prediction of the Destruction of the Temple |
||
|
24:1 As Jesus came out of the temple and was
going away, his disciples came to point out to him the buildings of the temple.
2 Then he asked them, “You see all these, do you not? Truly I tell you, not
one stone will be left here upon another; all will be thrown down.” |
13 As he came out of the temple, one of his
disciples said to him, “Look, Teacher, what large stones and what large
buildings!” 2 Then Jesus asked him, “Do you see these great buildings? Not
one stone will be left here upon another; all will be thrown down.” |
5 When some were speaking about the temple,
how it was adorned with beautiful stones and gifts dedicated to God, he said,
6 “As for these things that you see, the days will come when not one stone
will be left upon another; all will be thrown down.” |

Signs Before the End |
||
|
3 When he was sitting on the Mount of Olives,
the disciples came to him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will this be, and
what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?” 4 Jesus
answered them, “Beware that no one leads you astray. 5 For many will come in
my name, saying, ‘I am the Messiah!’ and they will lead many astray. 6 And
you will hear of wars and rumors of wars; see that you are not alarmed; for
this must take place, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation will rise against
nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and
earthquakes in various places: 8 all this is but the beginning of the birth
pangs. |
3 When he was sitting on the Mount of Olives
opposite the temple, Peter, James, John, and Andrew asked him privately, 4
“Tell us, when will this be, and what will be the sign that all these things
are about to be accomplished?” 5 Then Jesus began to say to them, “Beware
that no one leads you astray. 6 Many will come in my name and say, ‘I am he!’
and they will lead many astray. 7 When you hear of wars and rumors of wars,
do not be alarmed; this must take place, but the end is still to come. 8 For
nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be
earthquakes in various places; there will be famines. This is but the
beginning of the birth pangs. |
7 They asked him, “Teacher, when will this be,
and what will be the sign that this is about to take place?” 8 And he said,
“Beware that you are not led astray; for many will come in my name and say,
‘I am he!’ and, ‘The time is near!’Do not go after them. 9 “When you hear of wars and insurrections, do
not be terrified; for these things must take place first, but the end will
not follow immediately.” 10 Then he
said to them, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom;
11 there will be great earthquakes, and in various places famines and
plagues; and there will be dreadful portents and great signs from heaven. |

Persecutions Foretold |
||
|
9 “Then they will hand you over to be tortured
and will put you to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of my
name. 10 Then many will fall away, and they will betray one another and hate
one another. 11 And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. 12
And because of the increase of lawlessness, the love of many will grow cold.
13 But the one who endures to the end will be saved. 14 And this good news of
the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the world, as a testimony to all
the nations; and then the end will come. |
9 “As for yourselves, beware; for they will
hand you over to councils; and you will be beaten in synagogues; and you will
stand before governors and kings because of me, as a testimony to them. 10
And the good news must first be proclaimed to all nations. 11 When they bring
you to trial and hand you over, do not worry beforehand about what you are to
say; but say whatever is given you at that time, for it is not you who speak,
but the Holy Spirit. 12 Brother will betray brother to death, and a father
his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death;
13 and you will be hated by all because of my name. But the one who endures
to the end will be saved. |
12 “But before all this occurs, they will
arrest you and persecute you; they will hand you over to synagogues and
prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors because of my
name. 13 This will give you an opportunity to testify. 14 So make up your
minds not to prepare your defense in advance; 15 for I will give you words
and a wisdom that none of your opponents will be able to withstand or
contradict. 16 You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, by
relatives and friends; and they will put some of you to death. 17 You will be
hated by all because of my name. 18 But not a hair of your head will perish.
19 By your endurance you will gain your souls. |
